At Kaplin Stewart, we strive to support worthy causes and give back to the community. It’s important to us as a firm because our employees live and work in this area and our firm ethos includes making our community a better place for everyone.

Without the never-ending work of military personnel and their families, much of what we as Americans are able to do — including the services we provide to our clients here at Kaplin Stewart every day — would not be possible. So it is equally important to us as a firm to recognize their efforts and sacrifice.

philadelphia-unionFor these reasons and more, Kaplin Stewart is a proud sponsor of Army-Navy Cup III. Hosted by the Philadelphia Union franchise in Major League Soccer, the men’s soccer programs from the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy will square off in the third edition of what has become an annual tradition here in Philadelphia. The game will include patriotism and pageantry befitting the rich history of both academies and the U.S. military, as well as an excellent rivalry match between two high-level collegiate programs.

Kaplin Stewart was a prize sponsor of a juried art competition for the second year by the Montgomery Bar Association to place art in the courthouse of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Aptly named the “Courting Art” competition, local senior artists were invited to submit original works of art depicting what each loves about living in Montgomery County. The works, which ranged from portraits to landscapes in mixed media, were displayed for the judges and invited guests at the Montgomery County Community College in May. Twenty-five winners were selected. Reproductions of their art will be on display this summer at the courthouse. The Honorable Carolyn Carluccio, who conceived the idea for “Courting Art,” has as her goal to promote a more comfortable, visitor-friendly atmosphere at the Courthouse. If you find yourself in Norristown, please look for the winning works of art showing scenes of everyday life in Montgomery County and bringing to life Judge Carluccio’s special vision for the courthouse.

Members of the Kaplin Stewart family (attorneys, staff and family members) participated again this year in ADL’s (Anti-Defamation League) Walk Against Hate on Sunday, May 19, 2013, in Philadelphia. Kaplin Stewart’s team is called “Up With Love.” For 100 years, ADL has provided much-needed programming to fight all forms of hate locally, nationally and globally to secure justice and fair treatment for all. It continues to face new challenges, including the spread of hate messages on the Internet and the new threat to our young people posed by cyberbullying. ADL has developed and is implementing education programs to help schools, parents and communities effectively intervene. Making Diversity Count is advancing ADL into the 21st century with anti-bias training designed to empower the next generation of Americans to protect the values of a humane and civil society.

As part of our community efforts, Kaplin Stewart participated in the Independence chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators’ Annual Back to School Supply Drive. Our members donated a variety of school supplies and money to help deserving children start the school year on a positive note. The Crime Victims Center of Chester County distributed the items to children of their clients, as well as those of other social service agencies in the Chester area.
