Firm History

Internet Explorer was only on Version 4. Gas was $1.22 a gallon. “Titanic” was setting box office records and P. Diddy was still Puff Daddy. The Prime Rate was 8.5%. The year was 1997 and Kaplin, Stewart, Meloff, Reiter & Stein, P.C., was formed by a dedicated group of legal professionals and administrative staff. The idea was simple — to emphasize both a commitment and a culture. We would commit to providing our clients with sophisticated, responsive and efficient legal counsel, providing practical advice with a solid foundation of business acumen. We would also create a culture in which we would provide a warm and comfortable place to work, where our colleagues and staff would be treated as equals, with their contributions valued in a team environment, and where everyone would share the same sense of pride in our organization.

Two outstanding and accomplished attorneys, David Bressler and Bruce Meloff, were integral to our success in those early days. David was a highly skilled commercial litigator and Bruce a gifted real estate practitioner. Both were excellent mentors, with kind and caring dispositions and devilish senses of humor. While we may have lost David and Bruce, their contributions will never leave our collective memory.
