Here are a few recent developments in in the green building industry worth noting:

USGBC has announced its list of Top 10 States for LEED Buildings

usgbc_logo-thumb-295x300-12224The United States Green Building Council announced its 2011 list of the top 10 states with LEED certified building projects per capita. Not surprisingly, the District of Columbia leads the way given that USGBC’s biggest client by a wide margin is the federal government. Coming in second through fourth were Colorado, Illinois, and Virginia respectively. In terms of gross square footage, Illinois was first with over 34 million square feet.

Fabricators & Manufacturers Association Announces Green Manufacturer Network

The Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International has launched a Green Manufacturer Network. The group hopes to maintain it as a professional organization of individuals and organizations working together to aid the transition toward environmentally friendly manufacturing. More specifically, the

Green Manufacturer Network aims to be the principal resource to advance “sustainable manufacturing” according to the group’s president and CEO Edward Youdell. The promotion of practical and affordable solutions for manufacturers to achieve sustainability will be a focus.

GAF has announced that it has sponsored the Certified Green Dealer Program at the platinum level. The stated objective is to train and certify building material dealerships for the sale of green building products and materials. Among its emphases are green roofing and shingle recycling programs.
