Robert Korn, principal in the Construction Law group, was a presenter at the Pennsylvania Bar Real Estate Institute on December 2, 2010. His presentation was "Recent Developments in Mechanics' Lien Law." Barbara Anisko, principal in the Real Estate Litigation group, and Amee Farrell of the Land Use, Zoning & Development group, were also presenters at the Pennsylvania Bar Real Estate Institute on December 3, 2010. Their presentation focused on "Obstacles to Successful Redevelopment."
Neil Stein and Amee Farrell of the Land Use, Zoning & Development group, presented a program to the Home Builders Association Green Building Council on November 10, 2010 on "Contracting Risks in the Economic Recovery." Among the issues covered in the program were "What to watch for in agreements with townships; tips for getting your financial security back quickly; hidden traps in the next generation of bank documents; what you need to include or omit from your next land purchase contract; and, risks associated with 'green' construction projects.
Neil Stein and Amee Farrell also presented a program at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Design on the Delaware Conference on October 21, 2010 together with David Schoenhardt and Maki San Miguel Paulson of Wulff Architects. The program was called "Legally Green: Law & Liability Summary for Sustainable Design." Neil and Amee's presentation focused on the various issues that arise from a legal viewpoint for all parties involved in the process of building "green".
Maury B. Reiter, a principal in the Corporate & Business Planning and Tax Law groups, taught a course on "Negotiating and Tax Aspects of Buying and Selling Businesses" to the Connecticut Society of CPA's on September 23, 2010 in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. He also taught "Legal Toolkit for Business Owners" to the Pennsylvania Society of CPA's on October 20, 2010 at the Penn State Malvern Campus.
Neil A. Stein and Amee S. Farrell, of the Land Use, Zoning & Development group presented a program on Incentive and Risk in Green Building at the Mid Atlantic Real Estate Journal's 2nd Annual Green Buildings Summit on June 2, 2010 in Trenton, New Jersey.
Maury B. Reiter, a principal in the Real Estate, Business & Finance Transactions group, presented a course on Best Tax Strategies for the Real Estate Investor for the Real Estate Institute of Temple University Center City on April 22 and May 4, 2010.
William K. Stewart, a principal in the Real Estate, Business & Finance Transactions group, presented a course on A Focus on Commercial Transactions During a Recession, for the Real Estate Institute of Temple University Center City on April 8 and May 6, 2010.
Pamela M. Tobin, a member of the Business & Commercial Litigation group, presented a program on Handling and Protecting Electronic Information to the Women in Construction group of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Southeastern Chapter on April 16, 2010. Ms. Tobin presents this program frequently to business owners, discussing their obligations under the law to preserve and produce electronic information in litigation cases. Joshua C. Quinter, a principal in the Construction Law group, presented a Public Works Contracts Seminar on February 17, 2010 to the Associated Builders & Contractors, Eastern PA Chapter. Josh was also a featured speaker at the 41st Annual Metal Building Contractors & Erectors' Association Conference in San Antonio, Texas on February 24, 2010.
Barry A. Furman, a principal in the Tax Law and Real Estate, Business & Finance Transactions groups, presented a program on Sales and Use Tax Audits to the Associated Builders & Contractors, Southeastern PA Chapter, on January 25, 2010. The program covered the scope of the audit, procedures, audits of construction contracts, post-audit conferences, the appeals process, penalties and criminal aspects.
Barbara Anisko, a principal in the Business & Commercial Litigation and Land Use, Zoning & Development groups, is the Course Planner for a new course being presented by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute on "Your First Bench Trial in a Commercial Case." The course will be presented in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and will cover not only the basics, but also the subtleties of trying a commercial case before a judge. Ms. Anisko has significant lead counsel experience in matters involving commercial, real estate transaction, land development, land use and zoning disputes.
